Truck driving is an important part of the goods delivery process throughout the United States, but it is also one of the country’s more dangerous jobs. Fortunately, there are several things truckers can do to lower their risk of accidents. The following are just a few ideas. -Check blind spots: Many motorists are unaware of the various areas around a truck that are difficult for drivers to see, such as directly behind the truck or just behind the side mirrors. Make sure you check all the areas you can before changing lanes or turning to prevent a crash. -Adjust for bad weather: Although driving a little faster may seem tempting, around 25 percent of large-truck fatalities result from speeding in poor weather conditions. To stay safe, decrease your speed on wet roads by roughly one-third and by up to half when driving in snow. -Maintain your truck: Checking your truck every morning to ensure everything is functioning properly reduces the risk of accidents. Brakes checks are especially important for large trucks, as is checking fluid levels, the horn, and mirrors. -Drive alertly: When you are tired and have reduced concentration, you are less likely to respond quickly to an emergency and more likely to get in an accident. Pay attention to heavy eyes or frequent yawning, and take a break when you are getting too tired.
